Margaret Parrish Bass, 80, of 217 Emperor Landing Road, Edenton, NC, went home to Jesus on Friday morning, January 15, 2016 as her children surrounded her.
Born in Chowan County on September 4, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Andrew A. Parrish, Sr. and Myrtle Smith Parrish. Retired as the Finance Director of Chowan County, she was a lifelong member of Macedonia Baptist Church where she taught and mentored the Young Women’s Sunday School Class which had been named in her honor. An active member and past president of the Women’s Missionary Union, she was a longtime director of Vacation Bible School. Her life of service continued beyond the church and into her community.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, David L. Bass, by two brothers, Andrew A. Parrish, Jr. and Joseph Vance Parrish, and by in-laws, Carroll Wood Jones and Ann B. Parrish.
Surviving are her daughter, Jane Bass Williams and husband Terry M. Williams, Sr. of Wanchese; two sons, Thomas Bass and wife Michelle of Edenton and Paul Bass and wife Patty of Riverview, New Brunswick, Canada; six grandchildren, Michael Williams of Edenton, Jennifer Williams Fueston and husband Ben of Plymouth, David Bass and wife Lindsey of Littleton, and Joshua, Andrew, and Jacob Bass of Edenton; four great-grandchildren, Noah and Cameron Fueston of Plymouth and Mikayla and Britton Williams of Edenton; a sister, Alice P. Jones of Edenton; two brothers, Lloyd T. Parrish and wife Betty of Edenton and J. Calvin Parrish and wife Glenda of Richmond, VA; and several loving nieces and nephews.
A service to celebrate her life will be Sunday at 4:00 p.m. in Macedonia Baptist Church with her pastor, The Rev. Bob Young, officiating. A private burial will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery. Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, is assisting the family with arrangements.
Friends are invited to join the family at the home of Lloyd and Betty Parrish, 209 Emperor Landing Road, Edenton.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be given in her memory to the General Fund or the Women’s Missionary Union of Macedonia Baptist Church, 1004 Macedonia Road, Edenton, NC 27932.
