Marlyn Jean Rief Rowley, 92, of 205 Comanche Trail, Edenton, NC, passed away on Sunday, January 17, 2016 in her home. Mrs. Rowley was born in Chicago, Illinois on November 23, 1923, and was the daughter of the late Albert A. Rief and Inez Rodman Rief Tucker, and the step-daughter of the late Charles T. Tucker. A homemaker, devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she was a member of Bandon Chapel and its Women’s Guild, the Arrowhead Property Owner’s Assn., the Chowan Ruritan Club, and for over 50 years a member of The Order of The Eastern Star. In addition to her parents and step-father, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Charles Richard Rowley. Surviving are her husband of 72 years, Bryant Kent Rowley, Sr.; her daughter, Jean Rowley Newman and husband Jim of Chesapeake, VA; her son, Bryant Kent “B.K.” Rowley, Jr. and wife Uvera of Portsmouth, VA; six grandchildren, Will Rowley, Renatta Rowley Parinas and husband Aerock, Christopher Newman and wife Melissa, Pamela Newman Rowland and husband Ryan, Angela Newman Dauphin and husband Eric, and Brandon Newman; and seven great-grandchildren. A visitation for friends and family will be held Wednesday from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11:00 a.m. in Bandon Chapel and will be officiated by her pastor, Mark Nixon. The burial will follow at 3:00 p.m. that afternoon in Olive Branch Cemetery at City Park, Portsmouth, VA.
