Michael P. Raymond

   Michael P. "Mike" Raymond, 77, of Hertford, NC, passed away peacefully Tuesday, January 26, 2016 in Sentara Albemarle Medical Center, Elizabeth City.

   Born in Greenwich, CT, he was the son of the late Paul Elsbach and Anna Waselefsky Raymond. Mike enjoyed boating on the Long Island Sound, scuba diving and piloting small aircraft. He and his father trained the first police scuba diving team in Greenwich. A veteran, he proudly served in the Navy aboard the USS Randolph. In earlier years, he enjoyed bow hunting and skeet and trap shooting and was a great "shot." Prior to retirement, Mike owned his own kitchen design showrooms in Greenwich and Wilton, CT, and designed kitchens for many celebrities, including Eartha Kitt, George C. Scott and Andy Rooney. A devoted member of Hertford United Methodist Church, he also enjoyed water aerobics with the "guys" of whom the family is thankful for their kindness over the past few years.

   Mike was the beloved husband of Lynne Raymond; father to Noreen Walsh, Kessa Schaeffer (Peter), Kevin Raymond (Jennifer), Kim Karpel (Matthew), and Karen Stevenson; brother to Gail Cammerota, Sally Wolk (Richie) and Chip Raymond (M.J.); grandfather to five grandchildren; and uncle to several nieces and nephews.

   A celebration of his life will be held Monday, March 7, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in Hertford United Methodist Church with Pastor Jane Leechford officiating. Miller & Van Essendelft, Funeral and Cremation Providers, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, assisted the family with the cremation arrangements.

   In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hertford United Methodist Church Memorial Garden Fund, 200 Dobbs Street, Hertford, NC 27944.
