Roxie Spruill Hollowell

   Roxie Spruill Hollowell, 95, of Paradise Road, Edenton, NC, and formerly of the Rocky Hock community, passed away on Saturday, February 6, 2016 in Chowan River Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

   Mrs. Hollowell was born on August 5, 1920 in Chowan County and was the daughter of the late Willie Warren and Frossie Hare Spruill. A homemaker, she was a member of Rocky Hock Baptist Church.

   In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Norvell Edward Hollowell, Jr.; a grandson, Barry Bunch; a son-in-law, Millard Joyner; her sisters, Margaret Sitterson, Nellie Barnes, Blanche Hare, and Penny Mae Donahue; and by her brothers, John Lee, Willie, Fred, Parker, Carey, Harry, Frank, and Gene Warren Spruill.

   Surviving are three daughters, Lillian Perry and husband Emmett of Edenton, Marjorie Bunch and husband Emmett Earl of Jacksonville, FL, and Brenda Joyner of Elizabeth City; a son, Roy Hollowell and wife Linda of Kill Devil Hills; six grandchildren, Starr Christien (Joe), Dwayne Perry, Lisa Hill (Rich), Kevin Hollowell (Stacey), Stacey Joyner (Catherine), and Jason Joyner (Clare); eight great-grandchildren, Stephanie Millikin (Packy), Jessica Nicholson, Samantha Brown (Mitchell), Christine Perry, Sydney Hollowell, Shelby Hollowell, Millie Joyner, and Eloise Joyner; and two great-great-grandchildren, Evan and Hope Millikin.

   Funeral services will be Thursday at 11:00 a.m. in Rocky Hock Baptist Church and will be officiated by her pastor, Dr. James Horton. A private burial will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the church vestibule immediately following the service. Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, is handling arrangements.
