Edmund Randolph Temple died on February 8, 2016, in Southampton Memorial Hospital's East Pavilion in Franklin, Virginia where he had been a resident for the past few years. He was 75 years old.
Mr. Temple was born September 29, 1940 in Lawrenceville, Virginia, the son of the late Edward Randolph Temple and Louise Mise Temple Davis. A graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute where he was a member of both the Corp of Cadets and the swim team, he was an avid follower of Virginia Tech sports. For most of his life he resided in Gates County, North Carolina and while in high school and college he worked in his father’s logging business, Temple Logging, where he developed a deep and abiding love of nature and especially the forests. After graduating from college he was employed by Southern Bank in Gatesville, and later started an agricultural supply business. For many years he worked in the forest products industry with several North Carolina companies. A member of the Gatesville Masonic Lodge No. 126, he had served as a Deacon of Gatesville Baptist Church, and was a former member of the Gates County Investment Club.
Survivors include a daughter, Sarah Lane Temple Adams, her husband John H. Adams, granddaughters Madison Randolph Adams, and Lane Elizabeth Adams of Wayne, Pennsylvania, and a son, Edmund Randolph Temple, Jr., his wife April Ewell Temple, grandsons Cole Edmund Temple, Greyson Lane Temple, and Eli Ewell Temple of Fairfield, North Carolina.
Funeral services will be conducted at the graveside in Gatesville Cemetery on Thursday, February 11, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. by the Rev. Billy P. Presley. Miller Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Stroke Association (www.strokeassociation.org) or the National Stroke Association (www.stroke.org).
