Doris Mae Grubbs, 74, of Hertford, NC was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, February 8, 2016.
Born in Wilson, NC, she was the daughter of the late Vernon and Martha Watson. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend, she spent much of her life in Portsmouth, VA and was a devout member of Calvary Baptist Church. Later she moved to Hertford where she continued her devotion and love of the Lord and to her Snug Harbor church community whom she served diligently through active participation in Meals on Wheels, visitations to those in need, attending to the elderly, and anyone she felt needed a hug or a hand up. Doris was a trained and successful local artist, having spent many summers using her artistic talent painting murals for Vacation Bible School, Christmas plays, etc.
Left to cherish her memory are the love of her life and best friend, her husband of 60 years, Robert Grubbs; two daughters, Marina Taylor (Chris) and Darlene O’Connor (Tom); three grandchildren, Amber Taylor, Joshua Rominger and Christina Peterson; two great grandchildren; her brother, Junior Watson; her sister, Rosa Cooke (Bruce); numerous nieces and nephews; her devoted friends, Barry and Teri Locke, Jim and Sandy Spence; and her entire church community.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held Saturday, February 13, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. in Snug Harbor Community Church, 133 Fir Street, Hertford. Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home, Hertford, is assisting the family with arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider making a contribution to the Alzheimer’s Association of Eastern North Carolina, 3739 National Drive, Suite 110, Raleigh, NC 27612, or at www.alz.org.
