Agnes Smith Bembridge

   Agnes Louise Smith Bembridge, 84, of 8977 Mackey’s Road, Roper, NC, died Thursday, February 11, 2016 in her home.

   Mrs. Bembridge was born in Bertie County on May 25, 1931, and was the daughter of the late Cleveland and Sarah Elizabeth Goodman Smith. A homemaker, for over 25 years she had also driven a handicap school bus for Washington County Public Schools. She was a member of Holly Neck Church of Christ.

   In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Edward Bembridge, Sr., who died February 12, 2015 after 63 years of marriage; three sisters, Janie O’Neal, Elizabeth Bowen, and Bertha Light; and by seven brothers, Clyde, Minton, Cecil, Ronald Lee, George, Haywood, and Andrew Smith.

   Surviving are her daughter, Jo Ann B. Davenport and husband Gordon; a son, John E. Bembridge, Jr., all of Roper; a sister, Sadie Stallings of Virginia Beach, VA; two granddaughters, Kimberly Graham and husband Aubrey and Kelly Scott and husband Ray; and three great-grandchildren, Greyson and Ava Graham, and Jaidyn Scott.

   Funeral services will be held Monday at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, by Minister Cleve Edwards. A private burial will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery. Friends may join the family Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. in the funeral home, and other times at the home of her daughter, 3550 Davenport Forks Road, Roper.
