Naomi Riddick Hunter

   Naomi Lee Riddick Hunter, 79, of 341 Lake Road, Hertford, NC, passed away on Monday, February 22, 2016 in her home.

   Mrs. Hunter was born in Gates County on July 3, 1936, and was the daughter of the late Isaac “Ike” Riddick and Ethel Bunch Riddick. A retired supervisor with Don Juan Manufacturing, she was a faithful member of Hertford Baptist Church.

   In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, A. Marvin Hunter, Sr.; her son, Gary Preston Hunter; and by her brother, Paul Judson Riddick.

   Surviving are her daughter, Joan Hunter of Grandy; her son, Marvin Hunter, Jr. and wife Helen of Hertford; her daughter-in-law, Sherry Hunter of Manteo; three sisters, Mary Elizabeth Bass of Edenton, Edith Floars of Woodbridge, VA, and Janie Mitchum of Augusta, GA; eight grandchildren, Travis Riddick and wife Stephanie, Casey Riddick, Megan Pippins and husband J.P., Kyle Riddick, Wayne Hunter, Ryan Hunter and wife Chelsea, John Hunter and Holly Hunter; and six great-grandchildren, Hannah, Brayden, Savannah, Kamryn, Peyton, and Caysen.

   Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11:00 a.m. in the Hertford Baptist Church Annex and will be officiated by her pastor, The Rev. Gregory Clark. A private burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery. Friends may join the family Wednesday from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. in Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford.

   In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Gary Hunter and Naomi Hunter to the Jim “Catfish” Hunter ALS Foundation, P.O. Box 47; or to Hertford Baptist Church, P.O. Box 34, both in Hertford, NC 27944.
