Joan Loraine Jardine Van Doren

   Joan Loraine Jardine Van Doren, 83, of 121 Williams Street, Hertford, NC, died Wednesday, March 9, 2016 in her home.

  
   Mrs. Van Doren was born in Pompton Lakes, NJ on April 29, 1932, and was the daughter of the late Francis and Hettie McCarter Jardine. Retired as an accounting and payroll supervisor, she was a member of Hertford Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Frank "Buddy" Jardine and Donald Jardine, and by sons-in-law, Charles Shimski and William Hinkson.

  
   Surviving are her husband of nearly 46 years, Richard E. Van Doren; two daughters, Suellen Shimski of Knoxville, TN and Karen Hinkson of Rocky Hill, NJ; three sons, Robert Norman, Jr. of Doylestown, PA, Gary Norman and wife Michele of Holly Ridge, NC and David Van Doren and wife Maryanne of Hopewell, NJ; a sister, Ellen Contino and husband Louis of Wayne, NJ; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

  
   A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 19, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in the Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Chapel, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, NC and will be officiated by the Rev. Greg Clark. Friends may join the family in the funeral home immediately following the service.
