Ethel Baccus Winslow

   Ethel Baccus Winslow, 91, of Hertford, NC, passed away Wednesday, March 9, 2016 in Cross Road Retirement Community in Asheboro.

  
   Born in Perquimans County on September 29, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Archie and Maggie Baccus. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Newby Winslow, her daughter-in-law, Danielle Winslow, a sister, Thelma Rogerson, and by a brother, Roy Baccus. While raising a family with her husband, Ethel had been employed with Don Juan Manufacturing Co., Perquimans County Soil and Water Conservation, and United Piece and Dye Works in Edenton. A longtime member of Anderson United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school and sang in the choir, she was recently honored for providing flowers in the church every Sunday for 50 years from which she had grown and cut from her home garden. She was also known for her colorful and artistic handmade quilts, pillows, and fine crochet work that she shared with friends and family.

  
   Surviving are her two sons, John Vernon Winslow and wife Anne of Asheboro and Michael Newby Winslow of Chapel Hill; four grandchildren, Kevin Winslow, Kim Mullis, Emily Winslow, and Lauren Winslow; and three great-grandchildren, Winslow Mullis, Landon Anne Mullis, and Oliver Winslow Ravine.

The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to both the staff at Cross Road Retirement Community of Asheboro for their kindness during Ethel’s stay, and to Hospice of Randolph County for all their care and support.

  
   Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 19, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. in the Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Chapel, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, and will be officiated by the Rev. H. Gene Boyce. Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery. Friends may join the family in the funeral home during the hour prior to the services on Saturday.
