Edward Creecy Barber

   Edward Creecy "Eddie" Barber, 90, formerly of Swing Gate Road, Hertford, NC, died Monday, March 21, 2016 in Brookdale Senior Living, Elizabeth City.

 

   Mr. Barber was born in Perquimans County on January 1, 1926, and was the son of the late Henry and Laura Mae Davenport Barber. Retired from civil service with the United States Coast Guard Base in Elizabeth City, he was a member of Hertford United Methodist Church and the Parksville Ruritan Club. A veteran, he had served in the US Army during World War II. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Louise Banks Barber; three sisters, Hilda Sawyer, Katie Hill, and Martha Morrison; a brother, Henry Barber; and by a niece, Loretta Woodard.

 

   Surviving are his three nieces, Barbara Mathews, Gail Shealy, and Kay Gerstein; and three nephews, Douglas Sawyer, Wayne Hill, and Steve Barber.

 

   Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11:00 a.m. in Hertford United Methodist Church by the Rev. Jane Leechford. Military rites will be accorded in the church. A private burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery. Friends may join the family in the social hall of the church immediately following the service.

 

   In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hertford United Methodist Church, 200 Dobbs Street, Hertford, NC 27944.
