Mary Lane Long

   Mary Lane Long, 101, of 590 Davenport's Lane, Edenton, NC, passed away on Sunday morning, March 27, 2016, in her home.

   Mrs. Long was born in Chowan County on July 26, 1914, and was the daughter of the late Charlie Robert and Julia Chappell Lane. A homemaker, she had also worked part-time at both Dick's Drive-In and Gabby's Restaurant. A faithful member of Bethel Baptist Church, she taught Sunday School there for over 50 years. A loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and "Meme" to many, she touched the lives of those she came in contact with through her work and service in the community.

   In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Irvin Clarence Long, Sr.; brothers, Walton and Winston Lane; sisters, Emily Long and Julia Elliott; and by her daughter-in-law, Linda Basnight Long.

   Surviving are her son, Irvin C. Long, Jr. of Edenton; a sister, Lucy Mae White of Hertford; two granddaughters, Kaye Fussell Long and husband Mike Fussell, and Anna Long; and a great-granddaughter, Melanie Lynn Waff.

   Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. in Bethel Baptist Church and will be officiated by her pastor, The Rev. Greg Owenby. Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery in Hertford. Friends may join the family Tuesday from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. in Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, and other times at the residence.
