Redmond Newby

   Redmond “Bootsie” Newby, 81, of 241 Sandy Ridge Road, Edenton, NC, died Monday, March 28, 2016 in Vidant Medical Center, Greenville, NC.

   Mr. Newby was born in Norfolk, VA on September 1, 1934, and was the son of the late Redmond James and Helen Stroud Newby. For nearly 45 years Mr. Newby was employed with Ogden Foods, and later worked with Harvey Point Defense Testing Facility and Chowan Hospital. A volunteer with “Meals on Wheels”, he attended Center Hill Baptist Church, and was a veteran having served in the US Army.

   In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Mildred Louise Baccus; and by brothers, Charles Wesley Newby, William “Buddy” Newby, and Calvin “Jimmy” Newby.

   Surviving are his wife, Bessie Lee Lane Newby; two sons, Calvin Dale Newby and Michael Newby; six daughters, Cindi Pittman, Sonja Byrd, Kim Pscion, Shellie Newby, Sherri Sykes, and Tracy Gonzalez; two step-daughters, Leora Winslow and Tammy Song; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

   A memorial service will be held Friday at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, and will be officiated by his pastor, The Rev. Russell Blanchard. Friends may join the family in the funeral home immediately following the service, and other times at the residence.
