Robert Donnelly Heyl

   Robert D. Heyl, 93, of 510 Kimberly Drive, Edenton, NC, died Sunday, April 3, 2016 in Windsor House.

   Mr. Heyl was born in New York, NY on June 17, 1922, and was the son of the late Albert D. and Besse Jones Heyl. A retired mechanical engineer with Young Industries in Muncy, PA, he attended Syracuse University and Lycoming College, and was a life member of The American Society of Mechanical Engineers. A veteran of World War II, he served in the Army Air Corps.

   In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Jean Heyl Edmunds.

   Surviving are his wife of nearly 49 years, Sandra Lockard Heyl; five children, Dr. Robert A. Heyl (Jan) of Mancos, CO, Dr. Gregory T. Heyl (Eric) of Brooklyn, NY, David H. Heyl (Beth) of Montoursville, PA, Christopher D. Heyl (Erin) of Aurora, CO, and Ruth Carrell (Mike) of Lewis Center, OH; a brother, Daniel Heyl (Barbara) of Virginia; 13 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

   A private service will be held by the family. Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, is assisting them with arrangements.

   Flowers are to be omitted, and memorial contributions may be made to the building fund of Edenton United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 37, Edenton, NC 27932.
