Elisha Rodgers, 91, of 1107 NC Hwy 32 South, Hobbsville, NC, passed away Monday, April 18, 2016 in his home. Mr. Rodgers was born in Gates County on November 21, 1924, and was the son of the late George and Maude Goodman Rodgers. Retired as a custodian from Gates County High School after 27 years of employment, he was always very active, having worked part-time in various jobs in the Gatesville community, including lawn maintenance and painting with his best friend, the late Phillip Bellamy. A member of First Baptist Church in Gates, he was also a longtime member of Jephthah Masonic Lodge #174 in Gatesville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Venezuela Costen Rodgers, five sisters, and by four brothers. Surviving are his daughter, Angela Rodgers of Hobbsville; six sons, John Rodgers and wife Laura of Murfreesboro, Don Rodgers and wife Bonnie of Raleigh, Kenny Rodgers of Suffolk, VA, Elisha M. Rodgers of Raleigh, Ronald Rodgers and wife Gail and Alan Rodgers and wife Edna, all of Gates; 14 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Funeral services with Masonic rites will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville. A private burial will follow in the Costen Family Cemetery. Friends may join the family Friday from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home, and all other times at the residence.
