Rita Welsh Umphlett

   Rita Welsh Umphlett, 84, of Halprin Drive, Norfolk, VA and formerly of Hertford, died Tuesday, April 19, 2016 in Bon Secours DePaul Medical Center, Norfolk.

   Mrs. Umphlett was born in Islington, Newfoundland, Canada on October 12, 1931, and was the daughter of the late Isreal and Violet Welsh.  A homemaker, she was a member of Berea Church of Christ.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Seth Umphlett, a sister, Florence Chislett, and by a brother, Edward Welsh.

   Surviving are her son, William Kevin Umphlett and fiancée Christine Lemon of Norfolk; a daughter, Nannette Townsend of Good Hope, WV; a sister, Beatrice Kellhand of St. John’s, Newfoundland; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

   A private graveside service will be held in Berea Church of Christ Cemetery.  Miller & Van Essendelft, Funeral and Cremation Providers, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, is assisting the family with arrangements.
