John David Ayscue, 85, of 1219 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, NC, passed away on Saturday, April 30, 2016 in Vidant Medical Center, Greenville.
Mr. Ayscue was born in Perquimans County on January 4, 1931, and was the son of the late Joseph Roger and Irma Bagley Ayscue. A retired Senior Master Sgt. from the United States Air Force after 26 years of service to his country, he later worked as an insurance agent for 4 years in Goldsboro, and then was employed for 18 years at the Harvey Point Testing Facility in Hertford. A member of Open Door Church for the past 10 years, he previously had been a member of Hertford Baptist Church for 20 years where he sang in the Men's Choir and had been active in the Prison Ministry. His enjoyments included visiting nursing homes and playing cards at the Senior Center in Hertford.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Wilma Goodwin Ayscue; a son, David Alan Ayscue; a sister, Mildred A. Bundy; by two brothers, Joseph and Ray Ayscue; and by a brother-in-law, William Lane.
Surviving are his wife, Louise Elliott Tice Ayscue; a daughter, Linda McCoy of Tampa, FL; a son, Darwin Ayscue of Ootlewah, TN; two sisters, Sallie A. Lane of Hertford and Ruth A. Benton (Walter) of Portsmouth, VA; and two brothers, George Ayscue (Ann) of Greensboro and J.R. Ayscue (Laura) of Texas. Also surviving are Louise's sons, Arthur and Michael Tice, both of Virginia Beach, VA; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. in the Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Chapel, 1125 Harvey Point Road. Burial with military honors will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery. Friends may join the family Monday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home and other times at the residence.
