Corinne Forehand Thorud

   Corinne Forehand Thorud, 92, of Mark Drive, Edenton, NC, passed away on Monday, May 23, 2016 in Vidant Chowan Hospital.

   Mrs. Thorud was born in Chowan County on September 12, 1923, and was the daughter of the late John Lester and Allie Gardner Forehand. A homemaker, she was an active and vibrant member of her community. A faithful member of Edenton Baptist Church, she had been a member of its choir since the age of 16, played the Hand Bells, taught Sunday School, and with Janet Skinner was elected and ordained as the first women deacons to serve in the church. Serving as the church historian, in 1992 she wrote the book, “A History of Edenton Baptist Church”. A woman of many talents, she could sew, bake, decorate, and play Bridge, but the talent she used best was her testimony for the Lord, shared not only in her church but through her faithfulness to the Chowan Baptist Association.

   In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Moore Thorud; by her daughter, Mary Thorud Raulston; and by her siblings, Mary Jackson and John Forehand.

   Surviving are two granddaughters and their husbands, Corinne and James Olson of Clayton, and Elizabeth and Walt Garvin of Statesboro, GA; six great-grandchildren, William, Elizabeth, Anna, and Raulston Tetrault, and Griffin and Mary Banks Garvin; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

   Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2:00 p.m. in Edenton Baptist Church, and will be officiated by her pastor, The Rev. David Brooks. Burial will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery. Friends may greet the family immediately following the church service. Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, is assisting with arrangements.
