Orvin Elwood Rud, 96, of 109 Jackson Street, Edenton, NC passed away on Tuesday, May 31, 2016 in Vidant Chowan Hospital.
Mr. Rud was born in Mondovi, WI on April 2, 1920, and was the son of the late Chris G. and Sena Larson Rud. A retired professor, he taught at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, The College of Agricultural and Life Sciences, in Blacksburg, VA. A member of Edenton Baptist Church, he had served in the US Air Force during World War II.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Leah Rud; his daughter, Rosemary Rud; and by his siblings, Anna Johnson and James Rud.
Surviving are his wife, Della Mae Hill Rud; his son, John Rud of Gloucester, VA; three grandchildren, Scott Castelloe and wife Karen, Robbie Twiddy and wife Saula, and Shannon Lane and husband Ed; and eight great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Friday at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, and will be officiated by his pastor, The Rev. David Brooks. Friends may join the family in the funeral home immediately following the service. A private burial will be held at a later time in Poplar Hill Cemetery, Franklin, VA.
