Leona Soiney Cox

   Leona Elaine Soiney Cox, 76, of 291 Great Hope Church Road, Hertford, NC, passed away Sunday, June 5, 2016 in Vidant Medical Center, Greenville.

   Mrs. Cox was born in Genesee County, MI on May 20, 1940, and was the daughter of the late Cyrus Nate and Norma Elizabeth Lafay Soiney. A homemaker, she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to many. A Christian by faith, she also enjoyed playing cards with her friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Alexander "Tommy" Cox, Jr.; her daughter, Kimberly Ousley, and by three brothers, Kenneth Soiney, and Johnny and Richard Byers.

   Surviving are her two daughters, Renee Brown (John) of Riverview, FL and Andrea Pavlov (David) of Bronson, MI; a son, James Oost (Laura) of Live Oak, FL; two sisters, Shirley Flowers of Zephyrhills, FL and Constance Soule of Newport; nine grandchildren, Nicole, Casey, Corey, Steven, Michael, Bethany, Ashley, Amber, and Ericka; five great-grandchildren; two very dear friends, Margaret and Diane; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

  A memorial service will be held Saturday at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford. A private inurnment will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery. Friends may join the family in the funeral home immediately following the service, and all other times at the residence.
