Marie Forehand Owens Anderson

   Marie Forehand Owens Anderson, 91, of 1331 Center Hill Highway, Hertford, NC, passed away Monday, June 13, 2016 in Sentara Albemarle Medical Center, Elizabeth City.

   Mrs. Anderson was born in Chowan County on July 18, 1924, and was the daughter of the late Fate and Nora McClenney Forehand.  Restaurant work was her passion, and for many years she owned and operated, and later managed restaurants in Hertford.  Everyone loved her food, and she loved to cook lunch for her husband, the late Ben Owens, and the employees of Hollowell Chevrolet, and everyday made sure she had it ready at 12:00 noon.  She also cooked lunch every Sunday for her children and grandchildren.  After retirement from the restaurant, she bought a trailer and took in sewing, making monkey dolls and other crafts.  Following the death of her first husband, she married Herbert Anderson, and they lived in Holiday Island.  She was a member of Burgess Baptist Church.

   In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by; daughters-in-law, Leigh and Betty Lou Owens; a son-in-law, Richard Lane; two sisters, Louise Lane Boone and Margaret Cansler; three brothers, Lloyd, Ray and Joe Forehand; two granddaughters; and a great-grandson.

   Surviving are her two daughters, Lois Jenkins and husband Billy of Hickory, Wanda Cullipher and husband Donald of Windsor; three sons, Earl Owens of Hertford, Billy Owens of Edenton, and Martin Owens and wife Deborah of Hertford; a sister, Katie Nixon; a brother, Roy Forehand, both of Edenton; 11 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and 8 great-great-grandchildren.

   Funeral services will be held Friday at 2:00 p.m. in the Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Chapel, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Herford, and will be officiated by her pastor, The Rev. Bill Thorn.  Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery.  Friends may join the family Thursday from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. in the funeral home, and all other times at the residence.
