Madelyn Marie Byrum

   Madelyn Marie Byrum, 14, of 309 Goodwin Mill Road, Hertford, NC died tragically on Thursday, June 16, 2016 as the result of injuries received in an ATV accident on the family farm.

   Madelyn was born on July 3, 2001 in Chowan County and was the daughter of Paul Matthew Byrum, Jr. and Carrie Bridgers Byrum.  Madelyn had just completed the ninth grade at Perquimans County High School.  A member of the school Soccer Team, the OBX Storm Soccer Club, and the Carolina United Soccer Association (CUSA), she also faithfully attended Fountain of Life Ministries, and the Bagley Swamp Youth Group.

   In addition to her parents, she is survived by her brother, Branson Matthew Byrum of the home; maternal grandparents, Robin and Warren Bridgers, and paternal grandparents, Deborah and Paul Byrum, all of Hertford; maternal great-grandmother, Helen Bridgers of Elizabeth City; paternal great-grandmother, Ruby Saunders of Hertford; aunts and uncles, Tammi and Drew Byrum, Amanda and Gator Ridgeway, and Jodie Bridgers; and by her cousins, Brock, Caryss, Ayden, Lilah, Allie, and Neil.

   She was preceded in death by her great-grandparents, Paul and Marie Byrum, Doyle and Patricia Stone, and Maurice Saunders.

   Funeral services will be held Monday at 11:00 a.m. in Fountain of Life Ministries, 1107 US Hwy 17, Elizabeth City, and will be officiated by Pastors Hans Hess and Todd Kemp. Burial will follow in the family cemetery near the home.  Friends may join the family Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. in Miller & Van Essendelft, Funeral and Cremation Providers, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, and all other times at the residence.
