Mildred E. Jarec Warner, 96, of West Second Street, Edenton, NC, passed away on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 in Vidant Inpatient Hospice, Greenville, NC.
Mrs. Warner was born in Alleghany County, PA on December 26, 1919, the only child of the late Steven and Anna Pikula Jarec. A retired Registered Nurse, she had been employed with Bucyrus Erie in Glassport, PA. During World War II, she served in the South West Pacific area from 1942-1945, and achieved the rank of First Lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corps. A member of Edenton United Methodist Church and its United Methodist Women, she held also enjoyed membership in both the Edward G. Bond Post #40 of the American Legion, and in the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Peter C. Warner.
Surviving are two daughters, Alice Warner Shumlas and husband Steven of The Villages, FL, and Deborah Warner Green and husband Ron of Edenton; a granddaughter, Cynthia Fleming and husband Kirk; and a great-granddaughter, Ellen Fleming.
A memorial service will be held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in Edenton United Methodist Church and will be officiated by her pastor, The Rev. W. Christopher Aydlett. Friends may join the family in the social hall of the church following the service. Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, is handling arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the McKeesport Pre-School for Exceptional Children in McKeesport, PA.
