Della Fay Ward Allen

   Della Fay Ward Allen, 77, of 580 Swing Gate Road, Hertford, NC, passed away on Friday, June 24, 2016 in her home.

   Mrs. Allen was born in Perquimans County and was the daughter of the late Thomas David and Mattie Twine Ward. She and her husband owned and operated Allen's BP, and Allen's Archery, Gun & Tackle for many years until they retired.

   Surviving are her husband of 58 years, W. Daughtry Allen; four daughters, Connie A. Barham and husband Douglas of Greenville, Cathy A. Edwards and husband Irvin, Jr. of Kitty Hawk, Bridget A. Sawyer of Hertford, and Nichole A. Boyce and husband Mike of Elizabeth City; two sisters, Flora Hurdle of Belvidere and Loretta Stallings of Hobbsville; seven grandchildren, Brian Barham of Charlotte, Rachel Krahenbill and husband Jason of Edenton, Whitney, Cody, and Austin Edwards, all of Kitty Hawk, Alex Boyce of Elizabeth City, and Zoe Sawyer of Hertford; and three great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a sister-in-law, Gertrude A. Harrell and husband Robert of Edenton; and a brother-in-law, Ralph Allen of Hobbsville.

   Funeral services will be held Monday at 2:00 p.m. in the Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Chapel and will be officiated by the Rev. Stanley Nixon. A private burial will follow in the Ward Family Cemetery near the home. Friends may join the family Sunday from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. in the funeral home and other times at the residence.
