Alice Dawson Hughes

   Alice Grey Dawson Hughes, 94, formerly of Capehart’s Church Road, Merry Hill, NC, passed away on Tuesday, June 28, 2016 in Three Rivers Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Windsor.

   Mrs. Hughes was born in Bertie County on October 12, 1921, and was the daughter of the late William George Dawson, Sr. and Hattie Pierce Dawson. A homemaker, she was a member of Capehart’s Baptist Church and its W.M.U.

   In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Sidney Hughes; her sister, Nellie Pierce; and by her brothers, Bill, Tom, George, Jr., and Dick Dawson.

   Surviving are her daughter, Faye Capehart and husband Charles of Yorktown, VA; her son, Larry Hughes and wife Ann of Merry Hill; four grandchildren, Jennifer, Penny, Tony, and Jonathan; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

   Graveside services will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. in Capehart’s Baptist Church Cemetery, and will be officiated by her pastor, The Rev. Charlie Lanier. Friends may join the family at Larry and Ann’s home, 207 B, Sweet Hill Lane, Merry Hill. Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, is handling arrangements.
