Marjorie Powell Capehart

Marjorie “Tootie” Powell Capehart, 98, of 715 McMullan Ave, Edenton, NC died July 21, 2016.

Born in Harrellsville, NC on June 29, 1918, Marjorie moved to Edenton at age six with her parents, Dr. Jesse A Powell and Nell Nelson Powell. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband George, her brother Dr. Jesse A. Powell, Jr. and her sister, Nelson Powell Chears.

She is survived by her four children, George W. Capehart, III, Missie Capehart Harrell and husband Scotty, Frances Capehart Blom and husband Doug, and Susan Capehart Newbern and husband Judson. Also surviving are her 10 wonderful grandchildren as well as 10 great grandchildren.

Marjorie was loved by all and a lover of all. She lived her faith and was a devoted member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, an active and vibrant participant in countless volunteer groups, a dedicated choir member, sharp as a tack bridge player, and general joy filled lover of life. She brought smiles to the faces of everyone she encountered and was adored by all, especially her loving family.

A celebration of Marjorie’s life, followed by a reception, will be held on Sunday, July 24th at 3pm at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Edenton. A private inurnment will follow at Holy Innocents Episcopal Church in Avoca.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Edenton or St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Windsor.

The family is receiving friends at the home of Scotty and Missie Harrell, 131 West Water Street, Edenton.

Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, assisted the family with arrangements.
