Douglas A. Johnson, Master Chief, US Navy Retired, 78, of 113 Pocahontas Trail, Edenton, NC, died Thursday, July 21, 2016 in Brian Center Health & Rehabilitation, Windsor, NC.
Mr. Johnson was born in Bluefield, WVA on October 1, 1937, and was the son of the late Claude H. and Cora Mae Thompson Johnson. Retired from the United States Navy after 30 years of service, he was a veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Later Mr. Johnson retired from Potomac Electric Power Co. (PEPCO) in Washington, DC after 20 years of employment. He was a founding member of The Church of The Redeemer (Anglican) in Camden.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Joan S. Johnson; his son, Douglas A. Johnson, Jr.; a sister, Claudine Bailey; and a step-son, Rocky J. Duckworth.
Surviving are his wife, Jane T. Johnson; a daughter, Lynnette C. Evans and husband Rodney of Edenton; a daughter-in-law, Kara Johnson of Burke, VA; a sister, Margaret Tolbert of Edenton; a brother, C.H. Johnson, Jr. of Bluefield; two step-sons, David H. Duckworth and wife Kellie of Dewitt, VA and Randy L. Wilson and wife Martina of Fredericksburg, VA; 11 grandchildren, Johnathan, Brianna, Brandon, Austin, Ashley, Nicole, Kimberly, Bethany, Christany, Audrey, and Cameron; and five great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 27th, at 2:00 p.m. in The Church of The Redeemer, 207 Hwy 343 South, Camden, NC 27921. Inurnment will be held at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery.
In accordance with his wishes, flowers are to be omitted, and contributions made to The Church of The Redeemer, whose members were so loyal and steadfast during his illness.
