Michael Warren “Mike” Goodwin, 59, of Hertford, NC, died Thursday, August 4, 2016 in his home with his sister, Sarah, by his side as she had been since he began his courageous battle with cancer in March.
Mr. Goodwin was the son of Ann Myers Goodwin of Hertford and the late Earlie Lorraine Goodwin.
Surviving in addition to his mother are his two sons, Kyle Thomas Goodwin and Timothy Gessford Goodwin, both of Nags Head; his sister, Sarah Goodwin Carey and husband John; two nieces, Grayson and Sophie Carey, all of Garner; a special aunt and uncle, Glennie and William Ray Miller of Winfall; and many cousins, extended family members and many special friends.
Mike was an Eagle Scout, which lead to a lifelong love of the outdoors and public service. He worked for many years as a police officer and career firefighter for the Town of Nags Head, where he cherished the friendships and the opportunity to save lives. More recently, he worked as a truck driver where he enjoyed the freedom of the open road and listening to music. He spent years volunteering as a crew leader for the Tidewater Council BSA Maine Wilderness Canoe trip. Mike leaves a legacy of love and good memories. He shared his infectious grin, ready laugh and good times with many throughout his life, especially those from his firefighting days on the Outer Banks.
