P. Eugene Saunders, Jr.

   Percy Eugene “Gene” Saunders, Jr., 80, a longtime resident of Raleigh, NC, passed away on Monday, August 15, 2016 following a brief illness.

 

   Gene was born in Edenton, NC on October 13, 1935, and was the son of the late Percy Eugene, Sr. and Myrtle Boyce Saunders. A graduate of East Carolina University, he served in the United States Navy for four years, and then worked as an accountant for CC Mangum Construction Company in Raleigh where he retired after a long and successful career with the firm.

 

   Gene’s passions were classical music, gardening, traveling, family and friends. An avid supporter of the local arts and cultural community, he was also a competitive Bridge player for many years. A gentleman, friend, and confidant, Gene will be missed by all who knew him.

 

    Surviving are his sister, Sara S. DeBlois; two nieces, Deborah Evans (Lindsey) and Anna Del Tito (Benjamin); a nephew, Michael DeBlois; great-nieces, great-nephews, and many friends and extended family members.

 

   A graveside memorial service will be held Saturday, August 27th, at 11:00 a.m. in Beaver Hill Cemetery, and will be officiated by the Rev. David Brooks, pastor of Edenton Baptist Church. Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, is assisting the family with arrangements.

 

   In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the North Carolina Master Chorale, 227 W. Martin Street, Raleigh, NC 27601.
