Mr. Davenport was born in Bertie County on April 15, 1942, and was the son of the late Carlie W. and Myrtle Simpson Davenport. Retired from Fisher Nut Corp. after 20 years, and later from Atlantic Coil Co. after 10 years, he and his wife, the late Christine Cahoon Davenport were the owners and operators of NaNa and Pop Pop’s Antiques and Collectibles. A member of Chappell Hill Baptist Church, he had served in the North Carolina National Guard.
In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Margie Ward, and by a brother, Douglas Davenport.
Surviving are his daughter, Angela Davenport Tompkins and husband Christopher of New Bern; two sons, Robbie Davenport of Elizabeth City and Ricky Davenport of Hertford; a sister, Margaret Phelps of Windsor; a brother, Marvin Davenport of Merry Hill; seven grandchildren, Meredith, Courtney, Chandler, Sydney, Waylon, Nick, and Katrina; and a great-grandson, Holden.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, and will be officiated by Dr. Dallas Smith. Burial will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery. Friends may join the family Sunday from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in the funeral home and other times at the residence.
