James Landis "Jim" Tepper, 77, of 718 Whedbee Drive, Hertford, NC, died Wednesday, August 24, 2016 in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
Mr. Tepper was born in Bergen County, NJ on September 4, 1938, and was the son of the late Charles Edward and Ruth Landis Tepper. A retired photo engraver, he was a member of Berea Church of Christ, the William Paul Stallings Post #126 of the American Legion, was active in the Perquimans County Senior Choir, and had also volunteered with Meals on Wheels. He was a US Navy veteran. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann Harris Tepper, a brother-in-law, Don Riemer, and by a sister-in-law, Mary Ann Tepper.
Surviving are his wife of nearly 11 years, Peggy Stokely Riddick Tepper; six children, Cynthia Lu Reardon (Patrick) of Byram, NJ, Charles Harris Tepper of Butler, NJ, Peggy J. Copeland of Farmville, W. Kelly Copeland (Alice), LuRee Sawyer (Carlyle), all of Hertford, and Lisa Cook (Steve) of Cape Girardeau, MO; a sister, Janet Riemer of Pennington, NJ; a brother, Jack Tepper (Jane) of Lee's Summit, MO; 14 grandchildren, Hanna Ann Reardon of Byram, NJ, Patrick Reardon, Jr. of Sayreville, NJ, Jacqueline Reardon of Sandyson, NJ, Caroline Sawyer (Travis Patrick) of Marietta, PA, Kelsey Booth (Tyler) of Harbinger, Jordan Garrett (Brett) of Warrenton, Caitlin Sawyer (Brett Doyle) of Wilson, Christopher Eldridge (Krysta Middleton) of Millersville, MO, Katie Copeland (Wes Johnson) of Greensboro, Kyndal Eldridge (Mathew Fadler) of Jackson, MO, James W. Eldridge of Cape Girardeau, MO, Allison Copeland of Hertford, Justin Cook (Tiffany) of Aledo, IL, and Staci Taylor (Ken) of Trussville, AL; five great-grandchildren, Lydia Doyle, Lola and Hudson Cook, and Grayson and Chapel Taylor; and his canine companion, Mitzie.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 11:00 a.m. in Berea Church of Christ, and will be officiated by Ministers Phillip Alligood and Jerry Norris. Burial with military honors will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery. Friends may join the family for a time of visitation Sunday from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. in Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, and all other times at the residence.
Memorial contributions may be made either to the building fund of Berea Church of Christ, 1664 New Hope Road, or to the American Legion Post #126, 111 W. Academy Street, both in Hertford, NC 27944.
