Juanita Morse Byrum, 79, of 1582 Center Hill Hwy, Hertford, NC, died Sunday, August 28, 2016 in her home.
Mrs. Byrum was born in Perquimans County on July 13, 1937, and was the daughter of the late Ernest Earl Morse and Annie Pauline Corbett Morse Harris. A homemaker, she was a member of Anderson United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Rita Hope Byrum Patrick Kirby; sisters, Earline Godfrey and Mattie Wray Godfrey; a brother, William Marshall "Pete" Morse; and by sisters-in-law, Leona Price, Carrie Rountree, and Janice Hobbs.
Surviving are her husband of 62 years, Maurice Weldon Byrum; three daughters, Paula Byrum Cartwright and husband Jackie of Hertford, Yvonne Byrum Carver and husband A.C. of Elizabeth City, and Cathy Byrum White of Summerville, SC; four sons, Michael M. Byrum and wife Linda of Hertford, Gary W. Byrum of Tyner, Earlie W. Byrum and wife Donna of Hertford, and Garry R. Byrum of Fort Walton Beach, FL; two sisters, Dorothy Owens and Faye Nixon, both of Hertford; a sister-in-law, Marjorie Winslow, also of Hertford; a brother-in-law, Cecil Byrum of Edenton; 13 grandchildren, Charity Cartwright Winslow, Angel Cartwright White, David Cartwright, Stephanie Farr, Travis Patrick, Perry Byrum, Clay Byrum, Earlie Byrum, Jr., Collin Byrum, Crystal Carver, Casey Wilbanks, Hope White, and Grayson Stevens; 12 great-grandchildren, Brice Marie Cartwright, Alexis Cartwright, Jessica Megill, Joshua Megill, Courtney Meads, Abigail Adams, Carson Byrum, Blaine Byrum, Aiden Perry, Nikolai Wilbanks, Isobel Wilbanks, and Raegan Tylar Workman; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. in the Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Chapel, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford. A private burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery. Friends may join the family in the funeral home immediately following the chapel service on Tuesday, and all other times at the residence.
Flowers are welcomed, or memorial contributions may be made either to Anderson United Methodist Church, 412 Cedar Stretch Road, or to Open Door Food Pantry, 220 Winfall Blvd., both in Hertford, NC 27944.
