Maxine Redman Blythe, 93, of 121 W. Eden Street, Edenton, NC, passed away on Sunday, August 28, 2016 in her home.
Mrs. Blythe was born in Surry County, NC on September 26, 1922, was the daughter of the late John Sanford and Pearl Ashburn Redman, and the wife of the late Edwin Gray Blythe. For many years she owned and operated the Harrellsville Insurance Agency.
A former longtime member of Christian Harbor Baptist Church in Harrellsville, she joined in the fellowship of Edenton United Methodist Church upon moving here some six years ago. Other memberships enjoyed were the Ahoskie Woman’s Club for 34 years where she served as its President and on the District Board, and later the Edenton Woman’s Club.
Surviving are her daughter, Martha Blythe Guttu of Edenton; her son, James Sanford “Sandy” Blythe of Suquamish, WA; her sister, Billie Sanford Craft of Wilmington; two granddaughters, Stephanie Guttu Beaman and husband Clif of Edenton and Sarah Guttu Jones and husband R.D. of Houston, TX; and six great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Thursday at 11:00 a.m. in Edenton United Methodist Church and will be officiated by her pastor, The Rev. W. Christopher Aydlett. A reception for family and friends will be held in the fellowship hall immediately following the church service. The burial in the Harrellsville Cemetery will be held later in the afternoon. Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, is assisting the family with arrangements.
