J. Wallace Hobbs, Sr.

   John Wallace Hobbs, Sr., 95, of Snug Harbor Road, Hertford, NC, died Friday, September 2, 2016 in his home.

   Mr. Hobbs was born in Perquimans County and was the son of the late John Calvin, Jr. and Luna Lillian Proctor Hobbs.  A retired farmer, commercial fisherman, and craftsman, in later years he enjoyed working in produce and in his hobby as a toymaker.  He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.

   In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Winslow Hobbs, sisters, Edith Butt and Eula Mae Long, and by a brother, William Edward Hobbs.

   Surviving are his two daughters and their families, Beckie H. Clough, husband David of Springfield, VA, and their sons, Neil, Mark, and Jonathan; and Sybil H. Skinner, husband John of Hertford, and their children, Will and Elizabeth; three sons and their families, Benjamin C. Hobbs, wife Jackie of Hertford, and their sons, Calvin, Ernie, and Matt; John W. Hobbs, Jr., wife Nancy of Hertford, and their sons, Brian, Jeff, Wally, and Clifton; and Donald L. Hobbs, wife Joyce of Hertford, and their daughter, Tracy; and 29 great-grandchildren.

   Funeral services will be held Monday at 11:00 a.m. in the Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Chapel, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, and will be officiated by the Rev Howard Sutton.  Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery.  Friends may join the family Sunday from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. in the funeral home, and all other times at the residence.

   In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made either to Bethel Baptist Church, 794 Burnt Mill Road, or to the Bethel Vol. Fire Dept., 462 Snug Harbor Road, both in Hertford, NC 27944.
