Thomas Andrew Proctor, 89, of 866 Ocean Highway South, Hertford, NC, passed away on Saturday, September 10, 2016 in Edenton Primetime.
Mr. Proctor was born in Chowan County on November 6, 1926, and was the son of the late Lonnie A. and Pearl White Proctor. A retired farmer, he was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, the Bethel Ruritan Club, the Bear Swamp Hunt Club, and was a charter member of both the Perquimans County Rescue Squad and the Bethel Volunteer Fire Department. A veteran, he had served with the Merchant Marines during World War II.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Lonnie Alton Proctor, Jr., and by a brother-in-law, Willard Saunders.
Surviving are his wife of nearly 64 years, Dolna Mae Riddick Proctor; two daughters, Deborah Gail Hurt and husband Bill of Elizabeth City and Sue Stokely and husband Mike of Hertford; a son, Dr. Wayne Proctor and wife June of Edenton; a sister, Elizabeth P. Saunders of Hertford; four grandchildren, Brandon Stokely and wife Camrin, Tommy Stokely and wife Lynn, Stuart Proctor and Sarah Proctor; and five great-grandchildren, Katelynn, Logan, Willow, Aiden, and Addison Stokely.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, and will officiated by his son, Dr. Wayne Proctor. A private burial will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery. Friends may join the family in the funeral home immediately following the chapel service, and all other times at the residence.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Bethel Ruritan Club, in care of Willis Proctor, 575 Davenports Lane, Edenton, NC 27932.
The family wishes to express their deep appreciation to the staff and management of Edenton Primetime, and to Community Hospice, for the care given their loved one during his time of declining health.
