Sandra Floyd Miles

   Sandra Lee Floyd Miles, 72, of 189 Roanoke Drive, Hertford, NC, died peacefully on Friday September 9, 2016 in Chesapeake Regional Medical Center, Chesapeake, VA, surrounded by her immediate family.

 

   Mrs. Miles was born in Philadelphia, PA on June 11, 1944, the daughter of the late Raymond Campbell and Edna Webster Floyd. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree at Penn State University and Master’s Degree at the University of Pennsylvania. She taught Advanced Placement Seniors History and Civics at Neshaminy, PA High School. Following her marriage and subsequent move to NJ, she earned her Real Estate Broker’s License and formed her own successful realty business in Mountain Lakes, NJ.

 

   Once retired to North Carolina, Sandra became active in the Albemarle Plantation Women’s Club, the Albemarle Sail & Power Squadron, and the Newbold-White House. She loved working on plantings and became a Master Gardener, was a charter member of the Sound Gardeners Garden Club, and a contributing member of the Coastal North Carolina Day Lily Society. She loved to do crafts, but her real passion became wood carving. A student of Eric Van de Bogart, she became a truly accomplished carver winning gold medals in six successive Senior Games competitions.

 

   Surviving are her husband of 47 years, Allen Barr Miles; her sons, Allen Barr Miles, III of Edison, NJ and Robert Christopher Miles of Annandale, NJ; a sister, Barbara Horner of Dresher, PA; and three grandchildren.

 

   A memorial service and remembrance will be held Saturday, September 17, at 2:00 p.m. in the Albemarle Plantation Clubhouse officiated by her longtime friend and pastor, the Reverend Doctor William L. Pfeiffer Sr.

 

   Miller & Van Essendelft, Funeral Home, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, assisted the family with the cremation arrangements.

 

   In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mayo Clinic “2016 Drive to Cure Cancer” at www.MayoClinic.org/cure.
