James Lavon Cook

   James Lavon “Jim” Cook, 63, of 130 Old Rail Bed, Gates, NC, died Monday, September 12, 2016 in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

   Mr. Cook was born in Tunica County, MS on December 3, 1952, and was the son of the late Grover and Florence Davis Cook. A retired aircraft mechanic, he was a US Navy veteran.

   Surviving are his wife of nearly 40 years, Marian Dobay Cook; three daughters, Marci Stanz of Gates, Meri Lea King of Norfolk, and Kris Jordan, also of Gates; eight sisters, Gloria, Linda, Patresa, Marcie, Loretta, Debbie, Sherrie, and Carla; three brothers, Chuck, Bob, and David; six grandchildren, Brittany, Melody, Madalynn, Marian, James, and Anthony; a great-granddaughter, Meadow; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

   A memorial service will be held Friday at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville. Friends may join the family in the funeral home immediately following the service on Friday.
