Walter Ray Cox

   Walter Ray Cox, 74, of 2006 Belvidere Road, Belvidere, NC, passed away Friday, September 30, 2016 in his home.

   Mr. Cox was born in Suffolk, VA on June 9, 1942, and was the son of the late Joseph Robert and Allie Cones Cox. Retired from Albemarle Building Supply in Elizabeth City, he had a deep love for sky diving, having jumped many times and had often volunteered assisting fellow sky divers with their jumps. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, June Paige Chappell Cox, and by his brothers, Alan Cox and Robert "Bubba" Cox.

   Surviving are his daughter, Karen Trueblood and husband Ricky of Hertford; two sons, Richard Cox and wife Melissa of Tyner and Dennis Cox and wife Lisa of Hertford; two sisters, Nancy Warren of Suffolk and Dot Cook of Elyria, OH; seven grandchildren, Brandon, Ryan, Brittany, Randal, Kaitlyn, Brenna, and Dylan; three great-grandchildren, Summer, Faith, and Grady; and many extended family members and friends.

   Graveside services will be held Sunday at 3:00 p.m. in the Chappell Family Cemetery at the corner of County Line Road and NC Hwy 37, Belvidere, and will be officiated by the Rev. Donald Sawyer. Friends may join the family Saturday from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. in Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, and all other times at Dennis and Lisa's home, 430 Goodwin Mill Road, Hertford.
