Jesse William Overton

   Jesse William Overton, 87, of 100 Wiggins Road, Hertford, NC, passed away on Sunday, October 2, 2016 in his home.

   Mr. Overton was born in Perquimans County on December 27, 1928, and was the son of the late William Martin and Jessie Nellie Lilly Overton. The retired owner and operator of Overton's Sanding & Floor Finishing, he worked in that business for over 50 years.

   In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Margie Bundy; and by brothers, Don, Julian, and Robert Overton.

   Surviving are two sisters, Mary Ruth Stallings of Portsmouth, VA and Faye Reeves of Camden; two brothers, Graham and Luther Overton, both of Hertford; and by several nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

   Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. in the Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Chapel, and will be officiated by the Rev. Boyce Porter. A private burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery. Friends may join the family Tuesday from 7 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home and other times at the residence.
