Carolyn Virginia Byrum

   Carolyn Virginia Byrum, 72, of 173 Drum Hill Hunt Club Lane, Gates, NC, passed away on Sunday, October 9, 2016 in Vidant Medical Center, Greenville, NC where she was surrounded by her family.      Carolyn was born in Chowan County on December 9, 1943, and was the daughter of the late Selby Lee and Hettie Nixon Byrum. A Licensed Practical Nurse, she had retired from the Gates County Medical Center, and was a member of Middle Swamp Baptist Church.      In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Sara B. Chappell, and by Ronald Gene's daughter, Genia Buck Brown.      Surviving are her husband, Ronald Gene Buck; three sons, Robert Paul Hollowell, III and wife Sharon of Elizabeth City, David Lee Hollowell, Sr. and wife Lori of Eure, and Michael Neil Hollowell and wife Deedra of Anchorage, Alaska; and by her sister, Ann B. Hand of Gates. Also surviving are Ronald Gene's family, his son, Eugene Buck and wife Tammy, and his son-in-law, Aaron Brown, all of Gates. Together Carolyn and Ronald Gene shared 13 grandchildren, Jenna, Trenton, Robert IV, David Jr., Kelli, Amber, Michael, Ema, Oliver, Trebor, Trace, Austin, and Alexa; and 6 great-grandchildren, Lydia Claire, Alyssa, Kaylee, Kylie, Lillian, and Braelynn.      Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2:00 p.m. in Middle Swamp Baptist Church and will be officiated by the Rev. Burt Pearce. A private burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may join the family Wednesday from 7 to 8 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, or in the social hall of the church immediately following the service on Thursday, or all other times at the residence.      Flowers are welcomed, or contributions in her memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, McConnell-Raab Hope Lodge, 930-A Wellness Drive, Greenville, NC 27834.
