Selma Ruth Boyce Evans, 87, formerly of the Bethel community of Perquimans County, NC, and more recently of Sunrise Assisted Living in Raleigh, passed away there on Saturday, October 15, 2016.
Mrs. Evans was born November 22, 1928, in Chowan County and was the daughter of the late Charlie Baker Boyce and Janie Elizabeth Byrum Boyce. A retired inspector with Don Juan Manufacturing Corp. in Hertford, she was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Lloyd Evans, Sr.; sisters, Eva Silverthorne, Hazel Hollowell, and Mabel Lane; and by her brother, Joseph Boyce.
Surviving are three daughters, Jane Gower and husband Emerson of Georgetown, SC, Linda Musten and husband Danny of Raleigh, and Cathy LaBianca and husband David of Fuquay Varina; two sons, J. Lloyd Evans, Jr. and wife Betsy of Earlysville, VA and John R. Evans and wife Melanie of Raleigh; a sister, Vera Wallace of Edenton; eleven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 22, at 2:00 p.m. in Bethel Baptist Church and will be officiated by the Revs. Greg Owenby and Stanley Nixon. Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery. Friends may join the family in the church the hour prior to services. Miller & Van Essendelft, Funeral and Cremation Providers, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, is assisting the family with arrangements.
