Frederick Parker Smith, Jr.

   Frederick Parker “Freddie” Smith, Jr., 78, of 908 Court Street, Gatesville, NC, passed away on Saturday, October 15, 2016 in his home where he was surrounded by his family.

 

   Mr. Smith was born in Gates County on September 16, 1938, and was the son of the late Frederick Parker Smith, Sr. and Ellen Green Smith. A Navy veteran, he had retired from the Aircraft Division of the Naval Air Warfare Center, was a member of Gatesville United Methodist Church, the Gatesville Masonic Lodge #126, the Sudan Temple of the Shrine, and served on the Gatesville Town Council.

 

   Surviving are his wife of nearly 57 years, Loretta Hill Smith; two daughters, Kim S. Dilday and husband Robert Earl of Gatesville, and Deborah S. Powell and husband Ronnie of Corapeake; five grandsons, Brian Riddick and wife Ashley, Andy Riddick and wife Courtney, Dusty Dilday, Scott Powell, and Josh Powell; and eight great-grandchildren, Brandon, Logan, Ashley, Lyric, Bristyl, Addison, Emma, and Raylen.

 

   A graveside service will be held Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. in Somerton United Methodist Church Cemetery, and will officiated by his pastor, The Rev. Steven Hall. Masonic Rites will be accorded by Gatesville Lodge. Friends may join the family Tuesday from 7 to 8 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, and other time at the residence.

 

   Flowers are welcomed, or contributions in his memory may be directed to one’s favorite charity.
