J. Alton Campbell

   James Alton Campbell, 77, of 320 White Oak Road, Eure, NC, passed away on Sunday, October 16, 2016 in Down East Health & Rehabilitation Center, Gatesville.      Mr. Campbell was born in Pitt County on November 12, 1938, and was the son of the late Luther and Evelyn Chauncey Campbell. Retired from the maintenance department of Lipton Tea in Suffolk, he was a member of Eure Christian Church, Gatesville Masonic Lodge #126, the Sudan Temple of the Shrine, and the Scottish Rite Bodies.      In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Marlene Felton Campbell.      Surviving are two sons, Ray Campbell and wife Nancy of Eure, and Robert Campbell and wife Teri of Hobbsville; a sister, Myrtle Rountree of Gatesville; and four grandchildren, Elizabeth and husband Yorick, Charlie and wife Francine, Ethan and wife Victoria, and Colin.      Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. in Eure Christian Church and will be officiated by the Rev. Wade Bennett and the Rev. Dr. Wayne Proctor. Masonic Rites will be accorded in the church and a private burial will follow in the church cemetery.
