Francis Edward “Frank” Cummins, 82, of Captain’s Cove, Edenton, NC, passed away Monday, October 24, 2016 in his home.
Mr. Cummins was born in Polk County, TN on May 27, 1934, and was the son of the late Francis Michael and Irene Burger Cummins. Frank retired from AT&T after 36 years of service. Throughout his life he had many passions and interests. He was a Naval Reservist and a self-taught carpenter who crafted wooden works of art that became treasured heirlooms. Later in life, he purchased a 300-acre farm where he was recognized as tree farmer of the year by the State of Virginia, raised millions of chickens for Tyson, and built a 10-acre lake where he raised catfish and striped bass. Frank and his wife Judy travelled extensively throughout the world. He loved to learn about different countries and their culture and collected currency as memorabilia of his travels. In January of 2005, Frank and Judy moved to Edenton. Edenton, and its people, became his new passion. He also attended Albemarle Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth Garnet Griffin Cummins.
Surviving are his wife of 22 years, Judy Phelps Cummins; two sons, Michael Edward Cummins and wife Tammy and Brian Keith Cummins; a daughter, Kimberly Sue Raymer and husband Wayne; two step-daughters, Glenda Elise Cleven and husband Ron and Heather Fern Myers and husband Don; two brothers, James “Bud” Cummins and Tommy Joe Cummins; and a sister, Mary Ellen Cummins. Together Frank and Judy shared five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Frank’s life will be held on Sunday, November 20 at 1:00 p.m. at the Edenton Coffee House, 302 South Broad Street, Edenton, NC, and will be officiated by the Rev. Greg Brinson. Friends are encouraged to join the festivities and are asked to bring a pot-luck dish and a story of inspiration about Frank’s life to share.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to any chapter of the American Cancer Society.
