Junie Lee Umphlett

   Junie Lee Umphlett, 74, formerly of Norfolk, VA, died Tuesday, November 1, 2016 in The Ahoskie House.

 

   Mr. Umphlett was born in Halifax County, NC on March 23, 1942, and was the son of the late Junie and Leona Hux Umphlett. A retired supervisor in pipefitting with Shop 56, Norfolk Naval Shipyard, he had served for seven years in an overseas assignment in Subic Bay, The Phillipines.

 

   In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred White, and by a brother, Clarence Umphlett.

 

   Surviving are two daughters, Shanon Doughtie and husband Doug of Kill Devil Hills and Heather Hoffler and husband Kurt of Sunbury; a son, Scott Umphlett of Jacksonville, FL; four grandchildren, Tyler and Noah Doughtie, and Nicole and Taylor Hoffler; a niece, Brenda Holster; and two nephews, Hank Umphlett and Tim White.

 

   A private graveside service will be held in the Eure Christian Church Cemetery and will be officiated by the Rev. John Hilts. Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, is assisting with arrangements. The family is meeting at Heather and Kurt’s home, 225 Bosley Road, Sunbury.
