   Max Sanderlin Busby, 71, of 111 W. Queen Street, Edenton, NC died Tuesday, November 8, 2016 in Vidant Chowan Hospital, Edenton.

   Mr. Busby was born in Charleston, SC on July 29, 1945, and was the son of the late Max and Margaret Jarvis Busby.  A graduate of NC State University with a degree in Textile Engineering, he joined the Naval Reserves there in January 1964.  Following active duty with the Navy from September 1966 to October 1969, he attended Wake Forest University School of Law, graduating with honors with a Juris Doctorate degree.  His Navy career spanned 28 years, and he retired from the Reserves having achieved the rank of Captain.  For 37 years Mr. Busby practiced law in Edenton, with a focus on Real Property, Corporate, and Estate Law.  A faithful member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, he had served on its Vestry, and was active in the Stephen Ministries.  Community involvement included service as Scoutmaster of Troop #164, and membership in the Edenton Rotary Club.

   Surviving are his wife of nearly 50 years, Katherine Keating Busby; two sons, H. Wilson Busby and wife Stacy of Chesapeake, VA and Richard Busby of Los Angeles, CA; a sister, Betty Busby Cox and husband Randy of Mooresville; three brothers, Bill Busby and wife Rose of Cary, Charles Busby and wife Joy, and Jim Busby and wife Kathy, all of Wilmington; and three grandchildren, Madeleine, Harrison, and Sarah.

   A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and will be officiated by his pastor, The Rev. Malone Gilliam.  Burial with Navy Honors will follow in the church memorial garden.  Friends are invited to join the family in the Parish Hall immediately following the service.  Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, Edenton, is assisting the family with arrangements.
