Alice Parrish Jones

   Alice Parrish Jones, of 109 Emperor Landing Road, Edenton, NC, died Thursday, December 1, 2016 in her home.

   Mrs. Jones was born in Chowan County on September 11, 1937, and was the daughter of the late Andrew A., Sr. and Myrtle Smith Parrish. A retired loan officer and manager with the former Centura Bank of Edenton, she was a faithful member of Macedonia Baptist Church where she had taught Sunday School, served as GA and Acteen leader, worked in Vacation Bible School, and had been active in the WMU. A breast cancer survivor, she had worked as a captain in Relay For Life, and had lobbied Congress in Washington, DC to raise their awareness and secure more funding for cancer research. A lifetime member of the NC National Guard Ladies Auxiliary, she had served as president of its local chapter. Community involvement included her serving on the Chowan County Board of Education for 16 years.

   In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 55 years, Carroll Wood Jones; by her sister, Margaret P. Bass; and by brothers, Andrew A. Parrish, Jr. and Joseph Vance Parrish.

   Surviving are her daughter, Susan Jones Halloran and husband Robert of Richmond, VA; two sons, Allen Jones and wife Lora of Edenton and Bobby Jones and wife Krenia of Sanford; two brothers, Lloyd T. Parrish and wife Betty, and J. Calvin Parrish and wife Glenda, all of Edenton; 12 grandchildren, Martha, Frank, Mary Alice, Helen, Allen Donald, Lindsey, Daniel, Clinton, Hunter, Jan, Samantha, and Jessica; and 11 great-grandchildren, Taiten, Jadie, Holton, Tayler, Autumn, Daycee, Kaitlyn, Sarah, Savana, Kaylee, and Zoie.

   Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in Macedonia Baptist Church by the Rev. Bob Young. A private burial will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery, with Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, handling arrangements. Friends may join the family at the residence.
