Shelton Lee Goodwin, Sr.

   Shelton Lee Goodwin, Sr., 81, of 551 Ryland Road, Tyner, NC, passed away on Monday, December 5, 2016 at his son’s home.

   Mr. Goodwin was born on November 11, 1935, and was the son of the late Richard Lee and Thelma Nixon Goodwin. Retired from Norfolk Naval Shipyard, he was a member of Ballard’s Bridge Baptist Church, the Ryland Ruritan Club, and was a founding member of Club 21 Racing. He was an Army veteran.

   In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Estelle Taylor Goodwin; his sister, Lucy Mae Copeland; and by brothers, Tom, Jack, and Wayne Goodwin.

   Surviving are his son, Shelton Lee Goodwin, II and wife Nicole of Tyner; a brother, Louis Ray Goodwin of Edenton; three grandchildren, Analexis, John, and Tiffanie; and by a special friend, Mattie Johnson of Elizabeth City.

   Funeral services will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home & Crematory and will be officiated by Pastor Mark Nixon. Burial will follow in the Happy Home Church Cemetery. Friends may join the family Thursday from 7 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home, and other times at Shelton and Nicole’s home, 518 Ryland Road.
