Hubert Garland Wilkins, 78, of Rocky Hock Road, Edenton, NC, died Saturday, December 3, 2016 in Vidant Chowan Hospital.
Mr. Wilkins was born in Chowan County on February 25, 1938, and was the son of the late Bennie and Bessie Nixon Wilkins. Retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad, he later worked as a Motor Coach Operator with Fun Tours. A member of Rocky Hock Baptist Church, he also enjoyed membership in Unanimity Masonic Lodge #7, Sudan Temple of the Shrine, and the Edward G. Bond Post #40 of the American Legion where he was a Past Commander.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by both his wives, Loretta and Evelyn; by his brother, Robert Nixon “Bobby” Wilkins; and by a step-son, Joseph K. Peele.
Surviving are his son, Louis Garland “Buddy” Wilkins of Plymouth; a step-son, Terry Peele and wife Leslie of Virginia Beach; his daughter-in-law, Wendy Peele of Chesapeake; a step-granddaughter, Casey Peele; a sister-in-law, Joanne Wilkins; an aunt, Doris Jean Harrell; and several cousins and extended family members.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, and will be officiated by his pastor, Dr. James Horton. A private burial will follow in the Nixon Family Cemetery. Friends may join the family in the funeral home immediately following the chapel service.
