Grace Virginia Privott Blanchard, 93, of 1721 Ocean Highway South, Edenton, NC, passed away on Thursday, December 8, 2016.
Mrs. Blanchard was born in Chowan County on June 19, 1923, and was the daughter of the late Charlie Daniel Privott and Mary Jane Harrell Privott. A homemaker and farmer’s wife, she was a faithful member of Bethel Baptist Church where she had served as W.M.U. Director, taught Sunday School, and worked in Vacation Bible School. Other enjoyments included gardening, canning vegetables and making preserves, exhibiting her handmade crafts, and memberships in the area quilting guilds and extension clubs.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, I. Stanley Blanchard; her son, Wayne Blanchard; a grandson, Stan White; sisters, Erma Wiggins, Beulah Privott, Olivia Madre, and Mary Ray; and by brothers, Lindsey, Ernest, Earl, Wilbur, and Carey Privott.
Surviving are her daughters, Norma B. White and husband Sid of Edenton, Clara Ann Blanchard of Greensboro, and Jane B. Shaw and husband Jim of Apex; her daughter-in-law, Ruth “Sweetie” Hobbs; her sister, Anna B. Privott of Edenton; eight grandchildren, Sarah Blanchard, Sonya Longest and husband Tim, Carla Dahbi, Sandra Beck, Laura Stevens, Jennifer Ramsaur and husband Benji, Stephen Shaw and wife Kristin, and Susan Bradt and husband Mike; and eight great-grandchildren, Timothy and Celeste Longest, Cameron and Ashley Green, Josiah, Lydia, and Micah Ramsaur, and Stanley White.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, and will be officiated by her nephew, The Rev. Russell Blanchard. A private burial will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery. Friends may join the family Saturday from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home and other times at the residence.
Flowers are welcome, or contributions in her memory may be made to the building fund of Bethel Baptist Church, 794 Burnt Mill Road, Hertford, NC 27944.
